holiday

Sooo, a week in Czech (&Poland) behind. A week or two in Norway ahead. My god, that might have been the most NOT relaxing vacation in history, beating even Christmas in Austria. Full action. Now it's good just to sit down and enjoy TopGun once more.
Next time when I have some days off, I'm not gonna go anywhere. Or if I will, I'm not gonna meet anyone at all. BUT, I had very good time in CZ... The problem is I would have needed 4 weeks to go through all I did in one.

Time

Last weekend I spent in Finalnd... It was just awesome. Saturday was the best day for a long time. It was warm, sunny, I was home, everybody was home. It was just like I want summer to be. Too bad there was just that day... Now I am in D, it's 30 degrees C plus, way too hot.

today

In winter there is Christmas. The celebration of darkness and domestic violence. In summer there is the Midsummer Night. The celebration of light, sausages, beer, nudity, outdoor sex, road kills, accidents offshore, burned skin and love. In Finland it's way bigger than Christmas. "Juhannus" makes Christmas feel like Christmas without presents. And today is Juhannus.

Yesterday I was counting. This is the fifth Midsummer I spend out of Finland. IN A ROW. That is sad. Right now, sitting here, watching out of the window, I miss it.

Earlier I went rollerblading. Went by the river, away from the town. I've gotta say, the roads really suck. They feel quite dangerous and narrow. I haven't seen anybody else trying the same...  Next time I will head to the city, closer to the fjord. I really hope it's gonna be better, otherwise I am doomed here...

rock

I am no longer a rock festival virgin. Last weekend I spent in Seinäjoki listening to some of the best rock there is. Of course there were also some really crappy bands/artists like YUP. I am happy I went, though it was a really hard and tiring weekend. Some pictures will follow...

Bislett Games

So I got my world record... In women's 5000m one Ethiopian bettered the old record by some 5 seconds. The curve where I was sitting was pretty much crowded by Ethiopians who were dancing and drumming already before, and even more after that.
It was a very nice experience... The weather couldn't have been better, well maybe a few degrees cooler would have been enough... But it for sure brought more people and the atmosphere was happy and nice. Even though women's 5000m run is not the most popular event ever, every single ass in the crowd got up and was cheering for the impressive runner already when there was more than a lap to go... And the night was perfect for the Norwegians when the great javelin rivalry between Thorkildsen and the Finns ended for the Norr's behalf. Afterwards Oslo was full of rich beer drinking people.

On the way home all the trains were delayed, some cancelled, and I was back in Drammen bit after midnight.. Of course the last bus had gone few minutes before and I had to walk home... So I took some photos then. The night was warm...

Make my day

After a superb weekend home, it's tough to be back here... +30C outside, +30C inside, and a wound in a knee keeping me still. My highlight of the week has been yesterday's classic football match in TV, 1988 Nederlands-The Soviet Union.  Man those players were ugly.

I decided to go watch an athletic competition to Oslo Bislett tomorrow. I don't know if that's the most exciting way to spend a friday night... Or maybe I do... I expect some world records, bizarre sports injuries and free beer.

Wow, Halle Berry is a programmer in this movie.

Weekend

I took a short nap after the Formula 1 race. 3 hours? No wonder I can't sleep now...

I had quite more active weekend than I planned. Yesterday I forced myself to the center of Drammen, even the weather was gray and cold. The walk there took bloody 45 minutes! Well, I guess it was worth it anyway, but I could really use a bike here...
First I crossed the river, to the side where is the train station, because I thought that's the side where the actual center is. I found there absolutely nothing interesting. Luckily I crossed the river again to get closer to the Aass brewery and I found out that excluding the train station everything is there. So if I will ever do some shopping or pubbing or whatever here, it'll probably be on this side of the river. This time I just concentrated on sightseeing.
The city looks quite nice, a mixture of old and modern. Many of the old wooden buildings are still there, and nicely renovated. On the other hand there are some really modern apartment houses and office buildings. The Bragernes church and the town hall are nice (I added a photo at least of the church...). In general, everything here is very clean and in very good condition. Almost nothing is "ugly". And if I compare to Finland, everything is so green... When I left from Jyväskylä, my grass wasn't even growing yet and here it looks like there had been no winter at all.
I had to head back quite soon because it started to rain harder. The next time I will at least have to climb up to the famous hill behind the center and check the view (or I guess the hill is not so famous, but the spiral tunnel inside it)...
In the evening I was watching the Eurovision Song Contest. Again it just made me angry. There is just a bit too much of smiling and compliments combined with bad singing, that I can't take it. It is unreal.

Today (sunday) I got up late. However, it looked so sunny and warm outside that I decided to go for a walk again. This time up to the hill from here.
Just about 200 meters up from here there is a small skiing center. When I got up there, the only small rain cloud decided to start doing it's job. Anyway, I started to climb up the slope to catch some view. In about half an hour I was on top. Actually the best view was finally from a bit lower. I could get any good shots though, because of the blocking trees and that damn cloud, which didn't move anywhere and made the view blurry. I'll add some of those photos anyway... Basically the highlight for me was to see all the way to Oslofjord and tens of kilometers of the valley along the river. It gave me some hope, that I can make myself enjoy here at least a bit. I just need some hiking shoes, and a bike would be cool to have...
When I got back to the flat, the cloud went to search for somebody else to bother. All the rest of the day was beautiful, I just happened to spend it indoors.

Aass

Being bored drives me write my awesome blog again.
I am in Norway, Drammen. Have to work here for some time. I sure hope it'll not be so long...

This'll be my first weekend here. I'm still quite tired from all the new things and just from the idea of being here, so I'm just gonna stay in all weekend. There seems to be nothing much to see close around anyway. So far I haven't even checked out the center of the town. Maybe I will go there next week, have one 10€ beer in a pub (if there is any), and cry my eyeballs out.

Happened so far:
Finding it pleasant to have a direct train from Oslo Gardermoen to Drammen.
Wondering if I had travelled east or west, after seeing the local taxi drivers.
Being scared in a local taxi (and hearing they are F A S T in general).
Regretting not taking any Norwegian Crowns with.
Searching for an ATM.
Thinking if it will ever feel like summer as much as it looks like it.
Having problems to find alcoholic and non-low-fat beer from a shop.
Finding it impossible to buy alcoholic and non-low-fat beer after eight in the evening.
Trying again the day after.
Regretting not taking any Norwegian Crowns with.
Searching for an ATM.
Finding it too late to get back to the shop in time.
Wondering why the shop is open till 11pm if they don't sell beer after 8.
Trying again the day after.
Getting the beer.
Thinking it must be pretty damn good cos it cost like probably the best beer in the world should cost.
Tasting it.
At least enjoying the football match.

Missit valittu

I'm busy at work, which is nice for a change... Another good thing is that we've got snow. Actually the only negative thing at the moment is the temperature and that's how it's supposed to be. So I bought skis and hopefully this week I'll get a chance to use them. Finally it looks like winter and I hope it will for a long time...

Lately I've been attending our local team's hockey matches with Jitka. After a few years break it's been cool to really get into the game and see regularly how the team is playing. I saw a couple of Vitkovice matches in Czech, but they never felt the same like here. Hockey there was emotionless as a game plus I didn't have such a bond to the team like I have here. Here I am SO excited, happy and disappointed with the team... Sometimes afraid and sometimes angry. That's awesome, but Jitka thinks I'll get a heart attack once because of that. Well, I hope Jyp will win if that happens...

Yesterday was one of the most important TV days of the year, right after the presidential independence day celebration and  Kotikatu Christmas special: The Miss Finland -contest.  This year I had prepared well by checking out the girls LIVE beforehand. Yes, on a catwalk of a Jyväskylän car store, Laakkonen. It was very interesting to see them like that, because no director was able to control your eyes and really, the lighting of that place really didn't make their bodies look any prettier than they actually were. Only one had a body with no complaints to throw on, number 8, but unfortunately she was unlikely to win because of being "too hot" to be Miss Finland. The other one to catch my eye was number 4, but I didn't think she would win either. And they didn't. 4 placed 2nd, and 8 wasn't awarded at all! The winner (#1) looked actually not good at all in yesterday's final. She has some grandmother-like face and that's all I remember about her. Disappointment as every year.

surprise

Yo
I bet nobody's reading this anymore, but I'm gonna write anyway. And maybe I'll start to write again regularly after a long time!

So, someone might not know that I live in Finland again. Maybe it doesn't sound like a dream come true, but at least I got a good job here... Or what kind of job is it, when I am so bored that I start writing my blog again... Anyway, the place I work is in my hometown, Jyväskylä. 15min by car from Ristonmaa, the district I live in.

Shortly aboot the period after returning from Czech... I spent 3-4 months doing nothing here, until I found this job. I was already thinking we'd have to move somewhere for a job but luckily we didn't. Oh well, during those months I officially graduated from school :D... About time...

For most of you it might come as a surprise that I start working every single morning at 6am! It's tough, but definitely easier to do than studying 6 hours of Finnish language every day, which Jitka is doing. I go home at 2pm, picking up Jitka from school on the way home. I don't want her to need to use Finnish buses, which are crowded, going once an hour and you never know what time of hour... + public transport is more expensive than using your own car. What else sucks here... BEER: it is bad, makes you feel bad, and makes your wallet... well, for a price of 2/3s of a pint here, I got a haircut in Czech - twice. And if I didn't get a haircut, I got hammered.

Long time no update...

Jojo... I hate updating when the system always fails to save the changes I've made... Now I tried after a long time again and fortunately it seems to work... So I added few albums from the time from the last update to now...

In Finland

Friday the 11th of August, I took a Student Agency bus to Prague with Jitka. Our final destination was to be Finland...

We arrived to Prague bought something small to eat and  found out the way to airport with subway and bus. On the way we also stopped for the last Pilsner Urguell before getting familiar with finnish beer and prices. At the airport we had some time to do the essential tax free shopping before the departure with our Sterling airline plane. In the plane we heard that the next Sunday would be Sterling's last flights from/to FInland... So long, cheap flights between Finland and Czech...

From the window we saw the ground and sea all the way, the weather was nice. We arrived to Helsinki airport late evening...

We spent the first few days in Helsinki with my aunt. We saw the city, the normal tourist attractions including for example Suomenlinna-fortress in Helsinki waters. Also I had my first swim in a nice natural lake after so long time... We got familiar with the Kannelmäki-region especially, before making our way home to Jyväskylä on Sunday with Anssiho who gave us a ride.

From monday morning everything went so fast... Meeting family and friends and relatives... All the time... And the time was not enough. We took our czech friends who were also visiting to Neste Rally FInland, my cottage, home, so there was a lot to do. I got so tired during all that... But I didn't want to sleep, I enjoyed every second I spent there. Home. I would like to tell so much, but I am tired to write it now... I will add some pictures to album, WHEN THE SPACE LETS ME TO DO SO, pictures might tell more how it all went...

At the end of our vacation, we took a ferry to Stockholm. With my cousin and her family we experienced the wonders Stockholm (Swe) has to offer, for example good Kebab... We flew back from STockholm the 27th and already the 28th I was pissed off at work...

I feel stupid to write this so late after, and so shortly, but I am and have been very busy after I got back... I must go back in time once more with Jitka to remember the moments on our way in Scandinavia, and write them here... Later...

Thank you for all for good time and making me and Jitka feel comfortable wherever we were... And an apology for the all who I didn't find time to meet... I hope that I am able to add the pictures soon here for all of you to see.

Vacation

As you know, I was on a vacation in Finland with Jitka. I didn't have a second to open my computer and write what's going on... I will report briefly later what I remember from it all...
August 04

....

I haven't been doing anything for a couple of days already... I think I will continue doing nothing over weekend...

It has been raining for 2 days already... I hate it, it makes the air breathable and stops me sweating.

Comment

At the moment I have nothing I would like to report.

Sometimes Czech language makes me smile... faster, harder, skútr
